'Breaking Dawn Part 2' Box Office: 'Twilight' Finale Earns $30.4 Million On Thursday

The Biggest 'Twilight' Ever?

"Breaking Dawn Part 2" might wind up crashing through more than the morning mist: The "Twilight" finale grossed $30.4 million on Thursday night (from 10 p.m. and midnight showings), setting a new record for the franchise. As THR notes, "Breaking Dawn Part 1" grossed $30.3 million on its opening night.

Thank to that massive start, "Breaking Dawn Part 2" could top the opening weekend of "The Twilight Saga: New Moon." That film, the second in the series, earned $142.8 million during its first three days, a record for the "Twilight" films that still stands.

Whether "Breaking Dawn Part 2" can top "The Hunger Games" is unclear. The rival YA franchise -- which is released by Lionsgate, the studio that purchased "Twilight" distributor Summit Entertainment -- earned over $152 million during its opening weekend in March.

Not that anyone should hold a collection for Team "Twilight": As THR notes, "Breaking Dawn Part 2" has already earned $13 million overseas in addition to the $30.4 million in North America.
