Joe Scarborough Apologizes To Nate Silver

Joe Scarborough apologized to Nate Silver Tuesday for trashing his coverage of the 2012 election.

Silver's polling forecasts, which consistently showed President Obama in the lead, drew fire from pundits during the election season. Scarborough, for one, had dismissed the New York Times blogger as a "joke." In fact, Obama ended up performing almost exactly like Silver said he would.

In a Politico column entitled "My (semi) apology to Nate Silver," Scarborough wrote: "I won’t apologize to Mr. Silver for predicting an outcome that I had also been predicting for a year. But I do need to tell Nate I’m sorry for leaning in too hard and lumping him with pollsters whose methodology is as rigorous as the Simpsons’ strip mall physician, Dr. Nick. For those sins (and a multitude of others that I’m sure I don’t even know about), I am sorry."

Scarborough explained why he had been so skeptical of Silver, and gave him "great credit for confidently basing his model on the right state polls."

Silver appeared on "Morning Joe" Tuesday, in the first time the two men faced each other after the election. They spoke about why some polls got it wrong, as well as Scarborough's donation to Hurricane Sandy relief as part of losing their election bet.
