Jon Bon Jovi is speaking out for the first time since his 19-year-old daughter overdosed on heroin and was arrested for possession -- charges that were later dropped.

The 50-year-old rocker spoke with Fox 11, telling Courtney Friel, "What I do for a living seems glitzy and glamorous but if you don't take it too seriously it's a great way to make a living," he said. "And then life goes on. Things happen."

His daughter, Stephanie Bongiovi -- a student at Hamilton College -- is recovering from the overdose, but the singer says it's something he knows his family will be able to face together.

"This tragedy was something that I had to face too so we'll get through it. And people's warm wishes for my family and I have been really reassuring. So, we're good," he told Fox 11.

Stephanie is the eldest of four children the singer has with wife Dorothea Hurley. On Nov. 14 it was reported that police were called to her dorm room at the upstate New York liberal arts college, where she was found unresponsive. Emergency services found her alive, and authorities searched the room, finding a "small quantity" of heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
