Throughout his career, Mike Tyson has been viewed as one of the all-time boxing greats to ever set foot inside the ring. Now the former heavyweight champ, who was once dubbed the “Baddest Man On The Planet,” is aiming to provide an outlet for impoverished children through his Mike Tyson Cares Foundation.
According to the organization’s official website, their mission is to “give kids a fighting chance” by building centers dedicated to assisting in healthcare, shelter, school assistance, mentoring and job placement, to name a few.
“I wanted to do something bigger than myself, that’s bigger than me. I’ve always done things for my own profit, and maybe while I’m getting rich I could also help society,” Tyson explained during a recent ESPN interview. “Society has given me a great deal, I’m a very lucky man, and this is what I want to do with my life from here on out, instead of doing what I used to do, being selfish and only looking out for myself. I want to do things that help others.”
To celebrate the organization’s launch Mike Tyson is auctioning off the chance for one lucky bidder to sit ringside with him on December 8 during the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez bout taking place in Las Vegas. Bidding ends on November 29 at 3PM/EST.
