Sheree Peters Arrested In Florida After Husband James' Body Found Decomposing By Kids

Cracked Wife Kills Abusive Husband, Cops Say

An abusive husband's body was found decomposing at home by his children, and his crack-using wife is now behind bars, police say.

The corpse of James Dennis Peters, 62, was discovered at his Haines City, Fla. home by his two daughters. For approximately three weeks, Peters' family tried to reach him through his wife, Sheree, but she kept them at arms length, according to Fox 13.

Sheree Peters, 56, reportedly told the girls that their father was either hunting, at the Veteran's Affairs Hospital or outside doing yard work. In fact, James Peters' body was decomposing under a sheet inside his home, cops say. Family members found the body with a gunshot wound in his abdomen, police told The Ledger.

On Saturday, deputies caught up to Sheree Peters at a motel in Dundee. She told investigators that she and her husband were arguing and that James was shot during a struggle for the firearm. She was arrested at the motel, suspected of killing her husband. She also allegedly had crack cocaine in her possession, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Several news outlets reported that the husband and wife had been married for four years, and that both had faced charges stemming from domestic violence over that time. Sheree Peters was arrested twice in 2010 and once in 2012 for domestic battery, while James Peters was arrested in 2006 and twice in 2009 on similar charges, the Sentinel reports.
