HBO 'Girls' Meets 'Gilmore Girls': What The 2012 Show Would Look Like If It Came Out In 2000 (VIDEO)

WATCH: What 'Girls' Would Look Like If It Came Out In 2000

In many ways, the hit 2012 HBO show "Girls" seems about as different as you can get from the small-screen family dramas of the early 2000s. Hannah, Marnie, Jessa and Shoshanna, the "Girls" in question (or "the ladies" according to Shosh), say all the wrong things and face sexual quandaries that would make Rory Gilmore, for instance, blush.

But it turns out that a little skilled editing can take even "Girls" out of its disillusioned, overly-earnest, post-recession moment, back a decade in time. Video editor Marc Butcavage has re-imagined "Girls" -- or the opening credits at least -- as a circa-2000 sitcom, borrowing the theme song and font from "Gilmore Girls," the beloved mother-daughter WB dramedy that premiered in 2000, full of snappy dialogue, "aw" moments and small-town New England Charm. (The Gilmores lived in a place called "Stars Hollow." Enough said.)

You'd never know from the reworked version that the mood of "Girls" is so far from the feel-good turn-of-the-century vibe the Gilmores gave off. Hannah Horvath seems charmingly quirky! Marnie's gorgeous smile lights up the screen! And Adam seems like a really nice guy! Guess it's the magic of Y2K.
