Isaac E. Young Middle School Hazing Incident Leads To Cancellation Of Remaining Football Season

A middle school principal in New Rochelle, N.Y., quickly tackled the problem when the football team refused to rat out the leaders of a hazing incident. He cancelled the team's last three games, CBSNewYork reported.

According to the station, eighth-graders on the Isaac E. Young Middle School football team harassed and taunted younger players while pulling at their clothes as they lined up against the locker-room wall. The ritual unfolded as players sang Guns N' Roses' "Welcome To the Jungle," according to the New Rochelle website Talk of the Sound.

A parent complaint got police involved. No arrests were made, but the school meted out several suspensions, the New York Post said.

The school is one of many involved in a disturbing trend of sports-related bullying, much of which occurs as part of team initiation.

Twelve football players from Dexter Regional High School in Maine were suspended this week for alleged hazing involving paddling -- some of which was captured on video surveillance, the Sun Journal reported this week. The school is still investigating the incident.

In Illinois, a soccer coach at West Maine High School was accused of allowing the sodomizing of a 14 year-old player as part of a hazing ritual. It was revealed this week he had also coached baseball players who were involved in a similar incident years before.
