Artificial Wombs: Uterus Recreation Process Explained (VIDEO)

Huffington Post Senior Science Correspondent Cara Santa Maria joined HuffPost Live Thursday to discuss artificial wombs with host Nancy Redd.

Santa Maria explained the concept of an artificial womb, telling Redd "it's taking all of the raw ingredients that make up a uterus, an environment for a fetus to grow and recreating them in vitro, trying to recreate it outside of a mother."

She added that a recent study predicted that artificial wombs may be viable for humans eventually, and for rodents in the near future.

"The authors of the study are saying maybe ten years, maybe twenty, maybe thirty this will be viable for humans but we're already seeing it close to possible with rodents," she said.
