Christy Turlington Burns Style Evolution: From '90s Supermodel to Motherhood Advocate (PHOTOS)

Though she started modeling at age 14, Christy Turlington waited until she was 18 years old to make the big move to New York. Upon her arrival in 1987, she promptly landed a gig with Calvin Klein, a role she would hold for the next 20 years. But it was a few years later, when Turlington, along with Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evanglista and Tatjana Patitz, would grace the Peter Lindbergh-photographed January 1990 issue of Vogue, thus cementing her status among the new wave of supermodels.

On the runway, Turlington often worked it in bright, primary colors and shoulder pads -- a definite sign of the times. Yet, seen palling around with fellow model friends Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, her off-duty looks ranged from flowy, '90s dresses to Levi's and Timberlands.

Though she has certainly maintained her modeling career over the years, Turlington pursued a variety of other interests, including a degree from NYU, anti-smoking activism, yoga, and perhaps her biggest passion to date, maternal health issues. Through it all, however, Turlington's approach to getting dressed has remained as effortless -- and enviable -- as it seemed back in the day.
