'666 Park Avenue': Whoopi Goldberg Helps Jane See

Things are just as strange and mysterious as ever at "666 Park Avenue," but this week they were joined by Whoopi Goldberg. Goldberg played Maris, a sort of mystic character who'd been trapped in her apartment for the past 26 years inside the Drake. She had a ward on her door to keep Gavin out, but there was no explanation given as to why she was trapped.

Jane was trying to come to terms with her own connection to the Drake and remember a traumatic incident that put her in the hospital, so Nona directed her to meet with Maris. And Maris did help her remember what happened when she went down the stairs in the basement. Jane had found herself trapped in 1928 inhabiting the body of another woman. There she sacrificed herself -- or rather the woman whose body she was in -- in order to save her own grandmother.

In the end, Maris made a deal with Gavin. She would give him information about her meeting with Jane in exchange for freedom from the Drake. Gavin got a copy of a ledger that Jane signed her own name to in 1928. Maris got to walk outside and be free -- to turn into a flock of white doves?

While the writers have promised some sort of ending when "666 Park Avenue" ends its 13-episode run, fans probably shouldn't expect too much. It was intended to run much longer, and in fact two more scripts had been written. So they're tweaking things to try and give some closure.

For now, keep watching "666 Park Avenue" on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
