Demi Lovato, Lindsay Lohan: 'X Factor' Judge Defends Actress After Arrest

Demi Lovato DEFENDS Lindsay Lohan

Between the arrests and brutal reviews, Lindsay Lohan is having a bad year. Luckily, she has someone in her corner -- Demi Lovato.

The "X Factor" judge came to Lohan's defense on Saturday, responding to stories about Lohan's alleged cocaine use from gossip blogger Perez Hilton, reports Gossip Cop.

"Hey, how about you just leave her alone, @PerezHilton. Instead of kicking someone while they’re down?" Lovato, 20, tweeted.

"The media (me) is not harming Lindsay. She is doing that to herself. She needs to take #accountability before she will get better."

Though many would agree with Hilton that Lohan is the only one responsible for her current problems, Lovato disagreed and in a series of tweets she wrote:

“The media (not just you) don’t realize when you need to stop. This isn’t a headline for your readers. This is someone’s life. I really wish we could go back in time when artists were known for their work. Not their personal lives.”

When Hilton countered by arguing that Lohan is desperate for media attention and creates drama to get it, Lovato responded:

“Regardless, why does it need to become everyone’s business? If you believe someone needs help – help them.”

It's clear that Lovato relates and sympathizes with Lohan. Both are former child stars and Lovato has her own troubled past that she's been extremely open about. The former "Sonny With A Chance" star entered rehab in 2010 after she punched a backup dancer and was spiraling out of control. The actress and singer, who later admitted to self-medicating with drugs including cocaine, was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was treated for bulimia and other emotional issues.

Lovato's recovery has been an unlikely success for Hollywood, and though she's advocating for someone to help Lohan, it's not as though help hasn't been offered. Since 2007, Lohan has been to rehab five times and had seemingly countless run-ins with the law.

Though Lohan repeatedly claims she has learned from her mistakes her most recent arrest for allegedly assaulting a woman in a nightclub, and charges for lying to the police after a car accident this summer prove otherwise. Perhaps yet another stint in jail will scare Lohan into cleaning up her act, and as RadarOnline reports, the 26-year-old is reportedly "freaked out" at the possibility she could spend the holidays behind bars.

"Lindsay is absolutely freaked out about the possibility of going back to jail ... Lindsay knows it's almost a foregone conclusion that even if she admits to the probation violation without having a formal hearing, and throws herself at the mercy of the judge, she would be sentenced to significant jail time,” a source close to the situation told the website. "If Lindsay could sell a body part to keep her out of jail, she would. She is that desperate about the thought of going back to jail."

According to the source, Lohan is facing about 253 days in jail if she's found guilty of violating her probation, but due to overcrowding in Los Angeles jails she's likely to serve a maximum of only 63 days.
