6 Train Fight Video Shows Enraged Rider Trying To Stab Woman With Pen

Woman Uses Pen In Violent 6 Train Attack

With more than 5 million daily riders on the New York City subway, violence happens. But it usually doesn't involve writing instruments wielded as weapons.

A Gothamist tipster rode an uptown 6 train in Manhattan Monday morning and videotaped a fight between riders that involved a woman trying to stab another woman with a pen.

The video shows other passengers trying to reason with the assailant, and a few even try to restrain her. But Gothamist's subway spy reports the enraged pen-stabber's target may have started the physical part of the fight.

The site apologized for the jittery, vertical camerawork, but in a way it makes you feel you're there in the subway car -- even if you're glad you're not. For a complete diary of the pen-brandishing showdown and how it ended, head on over to Gothamist.

The 6 Train confrontation was overshadowed by a more tragic subway incident that occurred later Monday. A man shoved Ki Suk Han, 58, of Elmhurst, Queens, in front of an oncoming Q train, killing him. A suspect was taken into custody on Tuesday.

In September, crime in the New York City subways had increased nearly 17 percent over the same period the previous year, NBC News reported, but the news outlet didn't break down that statistic into types of criminal activity.
