A South Florida man is in custody after witnesses and police say he randomly and viciously stabbed a woman to death in broad daylight.
Miramar police arrested Emile Leon Senghor, 24, Tuesday on a first degree murder charge in the killing of Shuneeque Shawntrell Jones, 38, of Miramar.
According to WSVN, Jones was walking down residential Sabal Palm Drive in suburban Broward Monday afternoon when witnesses say Senghor unexpectedly jumped her from behind and proceeded to stab her with repeatedly with knives in either hand.
Miramar police and fire rescue responding to multiple 911 calls arrived to a bloody scene, where Jones was soon pronounced dead.
Senghor was taken into custody after authorities established a dragnet and his family notified officials of his whereabouts. Upon verifying witness descriptions and evidence linking Senghor to the scene, police apprehended him without incident.
Several members of Jones' family were visibly wrought with grief at the scene.
"We don't have a motive for this. The only thing we've been able to determine is that he lives within close proximity to the victim," said Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues.
Jones is survived by two sons and a fiancé. Records show Senghor is being held at the Broward County Jail without bond.
