About 20,000 students in suburban Chicago returned to class Wednesday following a one-day teachers' strike in Community Unit School District 300, the latest in a series of Chicago-area teacher walkouts.

The teachers' union and school board arrived at a tentative, strike-ending agreement Tuesday evening, ABC Chicago reports.

Details of the agreement have not been released, according to the Daily Herald, but the sticking points in the negotiations -- which began some 11 months ago -- had been class size and salaries, according to spokesman for Local Education Association of District 300 (LEAD) 300, the district's teachers' union.

The Carpentersville, Ill.-area school district has more than 20,000 students and employs about 1,200 teachers spread out between 27 schools covering 118 square miles and encompassing 15 different communities and four counties. It is the state's sixth-largest school district.

The District 300 teacher walkout was the latest in a series of Chicago-area strikes this fall, including strikes in Highland Park, Evergreen Park, Chicago, Lake Forest and Crystal Lake districts.
