Mariah Carey won't debut on "American Idol" until 2013, but the pop icon made a surprise stop at "Late Night" to ring in the holidays with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots. Fallon had joined the band to perform a special version of "All I Want for Christmas Is You" featuring instruments one might find in an elementary school music class.
One thing that most kids won't find in their classroom, though, is Mariah Carey. The newest "Idol" judge surprised the studio audience when she walked in to join the band on her signature Christmas classic.
As usual, she sounded impeccable. Maybe she can grace the "American Idol" audience with those world-class pipes of hers. And if she and fellow judge Nicki Minaj have truly buried the hatchet on their feud, maybe they could even sing a duet.
We know these shows aren't supposed to be about the judges, but we also know they kind of always are, aren't they? Catch Mariah Carey on the new season of "American Idol" on Fox. "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" airs weeknights at 12:37 a.m. ET on NBC.
