Capital Beltway Pineapple Truck Crash Leaves Mess Near Bethesda

Pineapples, Blueberries Spill Onto Beltway

WASHINGTON -- It hasn't been a good week for tractor trailers on the Capital Beltway.

Tuesday afternoon, a truck carrying municipal waste partially overturned on a flyover ramp to Interstate 95 southbound in the Springfield Interchange in Virginia, spilling its contents onto the Beltway's Inner Loop. That accident left a layer of debris on the roadway a foot thick, according to the Fairfax News.

Then, early Thursday morning, a truck carrying pineapples overturned on the Outer Loop in Maryland near Interstate 270 in Bethesda, spilling its load, which also included blueberries, according to WJLA-TV/ABC7.

Although most lanes have reopened, work crews were busy removing 70,000 pounds of fruit during the morning rush hour.
