Drew Barrymore's Olive: Actress Explains Daughter's Name

Drew Barrymore Reveals Story Behind Daughter Olive's Name

Naming one's offspring after an edible object has evidently become a thing in Hollywood. We've met Apple Martin, Clementine Hawke and now Olive Barrymore Kopelman, the 2-month-old daughter of Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman.

But how did the latter couple come upon the unusual baby name?

"I never would have guessed that would have been the name," the new mom, 37, reveals on Thursday's episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." "But I was reading a book with my husband. I was three months pregnant and they said, 'your baby is the size of an olive,' and that was it. We never looked back."

"It could have been the size of a peanut or a grapefruit," DeGeneres suggested.

"It could have been," Barrymore replied. "It was a lot fruit and vegetables."

"It could have been named kidney bean?" DeGeneres wanted to know.

"Kidney's not such a fun name," Drew aptly observed.

We wonder whether there's a similar story behind the moniker of country singer Jake Owen's daughter, Olive Pearl Owen, who was born on Thanksgiving.
