Jimmy Choo Gold Coast Theft: Burglars Shatter Door, Flee With Estimated $20,000 In Merch

Burglars Hit Gold Coast Jimmy Choo, Flee With $20,000 In Merch

Burglars looking for a five-finger deal in Chicago's Gold Coast shattered the door at designer shoe boutique Jimmy Choo before making off with thousands of dollars in merchandise early Thursday.

Police are still searching for the suspects who broke into the 65 E. Oak St. shop around 1:45 a.m. in a heist that reportedly lasted roughly four minutes, according to NBC.

Witnesses told police two men worked to jimmy the entryway — potentially using a sledgehammer, ABC Chicago reports — while a third participant waited in a getaway car.

The three men escaped in a four-door vehicle, reports the Tribune, after swiping a "large amount" of shoes and handbags, said police. NBC reported the stolen merchandise was worth an estimated $20,000; the Sun-Times noted that a price of Jimmy Choo high heels can range from $300 to $3,000.

ABC spoke to neighbors and business owners in the wealthy neighborhood who expressed a mix of concern about the rash of recent crime, and acceptance that high-priced goods and the stores that carry them will always be targets for burglars.
