The Australian DJs behind the prank phone call to the hospital where a pregnant Kate Middleton was staying have left their radio show indefinitely, NBC News reported on Friday.

With the news that the nurse who took the phone call has apparently committed suicide, Mel Greig and Michael Christian, the hosts of the morning show on 2DayFM in Sydney, were besieged with outraged messages on Twitter.

The two deleted their accounts in the wake of the death of Jacintha Saldanha. The station has ordered them not to talk to the media.

On Friday, NBC and CNN reported, the CEO of 2DayFM announced that Greig and Christian "have decided that they will not return to their radio show until further notice out of respect."

A "legal expert" told The Sun, somewhat hyperbolically, that the hosts could be charged with high treason for impersonating the monarch. There was also the inevitable petition calling for their ouster.
