Jets Quarterback Debate: Stick With Mark Sanchez Or Go With Greg McElroy, Tim Tebow

DEBATE: Who Should Start For The Jets?

It's one thing for the New York Post to portray a sports team as a bunch of clowns. It's entirely another for that team to be deemed inept by the standards of the Beltway.

But that's the latest indignity suffered by the New York Jets, a team that recently had its most notable fan quit.

In the latest installment of "Rex And The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight," the long-awaited quarterback controversy has finally arrived. Yet, somehow, it doesn't really involve Tim Tebow, whose acquisition via trade in March completed the Jets' in-progress transition from one of the NFL's most competitive teams to one of its most compelling sideshows. Third-string signal caller Greg McElroy was called upon to relieve Mark Sanchez after yet another ineffective showing against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 13. With the epic "Butt Fumble" being followed up by the Titanic Sanchez-Lindley stinker, McElroy's game-winning touchdown pass vaulted him into contention for the starting gig in New Jersey.

Senate Majority leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) recently referenced the Jets' confusion atop the depth chart in trying to describe the post-election struggles to get anything done in DC.

"Coach Ryan, he's got a problem. He has three quarterbacks: Sanchez, he's got Tim Tebow, he's got a guy by the name of McElroy," Reid said on the Senate floor (CLICK HERE to watch). "He can't decide who their quarterback is going to be. That's the same problem the Republicans are having. Romney's gone, but he's still in the background. We have McConnell and we have Boehner. Who is the quarterback, Mr. President? Who is the quarterback?"

While Jets fans might not be ready to turn over the reins of Tony Sparano's offense to Mitch McConnell or try out John Boehner in the Wildcat, they have plenty to say about the team's options. Although Ryan did name Sanchez the starter this weekend against the Jacksonville Jaguars there is no guarantee that he'll be the one to finish the season -- or even the game -- in that role.

Should the Jets stick with the struggling Sanchez? Annoint Tebow the starter? Or give McElroy another try?

HuffSports invited experts on the condition of Gang Green to tease out two sides of the heated debate. Representing the multitude of fans ready to turn the page on the "Sanchize" chapter in Jets history is Brian Bassett of The Jets Blog. On behalf of those not ready to throw in the towel -- and throw away the contract -- on Sanchez, we've got Joe Caporoso of Turn On The Jets.

Which side are you on? Did either argument change your mind?
