Cory Booker: Chris Christie 'Vulnerable' For Defeat In New Jersey Governor's Race

Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory Booker (D) continued to stir speculation about his potential aspirations for the New Jersey governorship on Monday, hitting current Gov. Chris Christe (R) as a "vulnerable" politician who is neglecting key interests in his state.

“We think to any Democrat -- Christie is vulnerable,” Booker said on CNN’s “Starting Point.” “There’s a lot of issues in the state he’s not falling in line with, from women’s issues, from environmental issues, from really going in a balanced way.”

On Sunday, Booker casually admitted that he had his sights set on higher office, telling CBS' "Face The Nation" that he was "absolutely considering running for governor" and that he'd decide within the next two weeks.

Booker has repeatedly maintained that Christie is beatable, despite the governor's high approval ratings and polls that show a heavy advantage for Christie in a hypothetical matchup between the two.

And Christie's current popularity could be weighing on some of his possible rivals. Democratic assemblyman and chairman of the New Jersey Democratic Party John Wisniewski said this weekend that it wasn't "the right time" to run for governor.

Booker has also made sure to keep his options open, teasing a potential Senate run as well. The Democrat repeated on Monday that he'd be looking at that position too.

"I will consider United States Senate as well," Booker said. "I am trying to make the decision based on where I can make the most difference in the city I love and the state I love and the nation I pledged my life to."

Before Booker makes any decisions about seeking another office, however, he'll first have to finish his ongoing food stamp challenge. On Tuesday, Booker is set to wrap up a week of eating on the monetary equivalent of food stamps. The decision left him with less than $28 to spend on groceries for the week.
