Crews Search Pond For Missing North Carolina Teen

Police and fire fighters in North Carolina are searching a pond today for Kayla Campbell, a 16-year-old girl who has not been seen since Sunday afternoon.

Authorities reportedly have divers in the water at a pond east of Interstate 485 in Mint Hill, a suburban town located about 20 miles southeast of Charlotte. The search began at about 11:30 a.m. Monday and is ongoing this afternoon.

A spokeswoman for the Mint Hill Police Department confirmed to The Huffington Post that authorities are searching the area, but would not say what prompted the search or give any further details.

Campbell was last seen leaving her home in the 9000 block of Dartmoor Place at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The teenager was supposed to be home by 5:15 p.m. but failed to return. Campbell's parents reported her missing at 6 p.m. Sunday, police said.

The missing teen's mother, Stephanie Campbell, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from HuffPost on Monday.

Kayla Campbell is described as a white female, 5-foot-6, weighing 115 pounds, with long brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information on Campbell's whereabouts is asked to call Mint Hill police at 704-847-5555.
