'Book Of Mormon' Chicago Run Begins Tuesday

'Book Of Mormon' Begins Its Chicago Residency

The much-anticipated Chicago run of "The Book of Mormon" launches with its first preview performance Tuesday at the Bank of America Theatre.

The satirical Tony-winning Broadway musical, created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, tells the story of two young Mormon missionaries assigned to northern Uganda -- with raunchy results. The show has been one of Broadway's hottest tickets in recent history and its Chicago run -- originally slated to go through March -- has already been extended through June 2 after it sold out its first three months of shows.

At least two "Book of Mormon" headliners -- Nic Rouleau, of the show's Broadway company, and James Vincent Meredith, a Chicago actor and Steppenwolf ensemble member -- are hoping the show's run will extend even further beyond that, the Daily Herald reports.

"It's an incredible experience to be able to come here and to open a company," Rouleau told the suburban paper. "It's something I've wanted ever since I started with the show."

Ben Platt ("Pitch Perfect"), Stephanie Umoh and Jackson Evans round out the Chicago production's principal cast.

The Chicago Tribune's Chris Jones notes that a limited number of $25 rush tickets to the sold-out preview debut of the production -- and all future performances -- will be rewarded to those who enter a random drawing held two hours before curtain time, for which entrants must be present to win. Entrants may only enter to claim up to two seats.
