“Hurricane Sandy was so powerful she blew Governor Chris Christie to the left,” joked Current TV’s Joy Behar as she headlined a comedy show to benefit victims of Sandy.

But she wasn't the only one to take the stage to raise money for those devastated by Hurricane Sandy.

“Everyone was very eager to be part of such a fun evening and raise money for such a great cause,” Joy tells The Huffington Post about the all-star lineup that included comedians Susie Essman, Larry David, Colin Quinn, Judy Gold and Darrell Hammond, and former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer.

“Laughter is very therapeutic, it’s necessary during difficult times. Much like sex -- not that I’m an expert.”

On the show, which will air at 9 p.m. ET, Friday, Dec. 14 on Current TV, Larry reveals that his mother told him growing up that he was not special.

“I don't remember being particularly funny [as a child]. I was told I wasn't special by my mother,” says Larry. “I said, 'Ma, I think I want to be a sports announcer when I grow up.' [She said] ‘What makes you think you’re going to be a sports announcer? You’re kidding! You’re not special.’ I said, 'You really have to be special to do that?'”

With Current’s co-founder being former Vice President Al Gore, it should be no surprise that the show is full of political humor, which Joy loves.

“The funniest politician intentionally is Bob Dole and Barney Frank,” says Joy. “Unintentionally, Mitt Romney. As a prop comic, I would say Al Gore.”
