Keith Haring 'Political Line' At Musée D'Art Moderne Debuts In Spring (PHOTOS, PREVIEW)

Keith Haring Gets Political In A New Exhibition

It's hard not to smile when we see one of Keith Haring's strong and simple street art specimens.

The thick graphic lines, bright colors and universal legibility helped the world fall in love with the late artist's pop graffiti. Haring may be remembered for his happy, childlike drawings, but it's important to remember he spent his entire career fighting against political injustice. A thematic retrospective at Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, entitled "The Political Line," examines Haring's career through the lens of political activism, highlighting the darker edges around Haring's bright ideas.

The collection contains almost 250 works on canvas, tarpaulins and subway walls depicting strong statements against racism, capitalism, homophobia and violence. In his lifetime, Haring advocated tirelessly for AIDS awareness and prevention, environmental activism and racial equality in apartheid era South Africa. His pop-friendly style captures the simplicity and urgency of these political calls to action.

"The Political Line" will show from April 19 to August 18, 2013 at The Musée d'Art Moderne, but we had to give you a glimpse ahead of time. Consider it a holiday gift.
