Nicolas Sarkozy ended his first and only presidential term as France's least popular leader and taly's Silvio Berlusconi resigned in November 2011 and left the country in disastrous economic conditions. Yet both flamboyant leader seem to be regaining popularity and may well be back on the frontpages in 2013.
Sarkozy subtly reappeared on the political scene while mediating in an internal conflict dividing his conservative UMP party. More blatantly, Berlusconi announced this month he is planning to run for Prime Minister. For the fifth time.
