Timothy Thompson Speeds At 100 MPH On Way To Wedding: Cops

'TIL ARREST DO US PART: Groom Heads To Wedding, Winds Up In Jail

He was so excited about getting hitched on Dec. 8, he sped to the church in Portage, Ind., in hopes of getting there on time.

Problem was, officials clocked him at 100 mph and pulled him over, according to a police report obtained by NWI.

During his pre-nuptial joyride, officers said he drove erratically, switched lanes abruptly and, at one point, almost wrecked his Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The police finally cornered Thompson when he turned into the parking lot of Nativity of Our Savior Church, where he again nearly tipped over the vehicle, but only after allegedly doing two doughnuts in the parking lot, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

When the officers questioned Thompson, they say he explained he was late for his wedding and was only speeding so that he'd make it to the church on time. They also say he told them he had been flashing his emergency lights and honking his horn helpfully to warn other drivers, UPI.com reported.

At some point during the interrogation, three people approached Thompson and the officer and started yelling at the accused for his bad driving. These witnesses were lated identified as relatives of Thompson, and when they started arguing, he got back in his car and started to drive away.

The officer blocked Thompson with his cruiser and then asked why Thompson was trying to leave, according to WXIN-TV.

“Oh, I thought you were done and I’m late for a party in Chicago,” Thompson allegedly told police, “It now means I have to drive really fast to get there.”

Thompson -- who told police he had just been released from jail earlier that day, according to the arrest report -- didn't make it to the party or to his wedding.

He was arrested on charges including resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness and reckless driving. He was also cited for speeding and improper passing.

He was transported to Porter County Jail and held without bond.
