Child shocked by cop on career day
A 10-year-old boy was <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/31/10-year-old-tasered-new-mexico_n_2050463.html">shot with a Taser</a> by a police officer after he refused to wash the cop's car, according to a lawsuit filed in October, 2012. Motor Transportation Officer Chris Webb says the incident was an accident, and that he believed his weapon was not loaded. The incident took place during Webb's presentation at "Career Day" at Tularosa New Mexico Intermediate School in May.
Alleged Jaywalker Zapped
<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/18/zikomo-peurifoy-tasered_n_1680333.html">Zikomo Peurifoy's arrest</a> in Casselberry, Fla., on July 7 made headlines after video showing him being repeatedly zapped was posted on YouTube. Police said officers did "nothing wrong" in their arrest of Peurifoy, an alleged jaywalker, and that their actions were so appropriate that the video of the arrest was being used to train officers on the use of force.
Pregnant Woman Hit With Taser
A pregnant woman said Chicago cops should have known she was 8-months pregnant when they shot her with a Taser in June, <a href="http://rt.com/usa/news/chicago-taser-pregnant-rent-324/">according to Russia Today.</a> An officer asked about the incident, which took place in June, said “you can’t always tell whether somebody is pregnant.” The woman was stunned when she "attempted to take off” after being ticketed for parking her car in a space reserved for handicap persons, according to police.
Transgender Woman Tasered
A woman <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/14/brooke-fantelli-transgender-lawsuit-taser_n_2132722.html?">filed a lawsuit in November</a> that claims a federal ranger used a Taser on her crotch, shortly after learning she was transgender. Brooke Fantelli filed the lawsuit in federal court accusing the U.S. Bureau of Land Management of excessive force. The alleged incident took place in the Imperial County desert near El Centro, Calif. in October, 2011. Ranger "J. Peter" asked Fantelli's group for identification while they were taking part in a photo shoot. Fantelli's ID still identified her as male.
Police Officer Tasered Handcuffed Woman That Spits in His Face, Gets Suspended
A McAlester, Okla. <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/29/nakina-williams-tasered_n_2212426.html">police officer's decision to shoot</a> a handcuffed woman in the chest with a Taser could cost the city $2 million. Nakina Williams filed a lawsuit in November in federal court demanding $2 million in damages. The suit was spurred by a June, 24 incident that was caught on surveillance video at the Pittsburg County jail.
Toddler hit with Taser
A San Diego Police officer was aiming to take down a suspected parole violator when a <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/29/toddler-tasered-san-diego-police_n_2040874.html">barb from his Taser</a> hit a toddler instead. Police were chasing the alleged parole violator, whose name has not been released, through the Southland Plaza Shopping Center in Nestor, Calif. in October.
Man Shot With Taser For Trying To Put Out Fire
A Pinellas Park, Florida man was shot with a Taser in November after he tried to use his hose to put out a fire that was threatening to engulf his home, <a href="http://www.wtsp.com/news/local/article/281898/8/Homeowner-tazered-while-trying-to-put-out-fire">according to WTSP.</a> Cops said they resorted to shocking Daniel Jensen after he refused to follow their orders to stand back and allow them to do their jobs. The fire department eventually arrived and put out the blaze.
Blind Man Zapped By Police
Blind 61-year-old Colin Farmer was hit with a Taser by English police when they mistook his white cane for a samurai sword in October, <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2218945/Terror-blind-man-tasered-police-I-thought-theyd-kill-says-stroke-victim-aged-61-white-stick-mistaken-samurai-sword.html">according to the Daily Mail.</a> No disciplinary action was taken against the officer, the paper reports.
Man Shocked By Stun Gun In Courthouse
A 21-year-old man who refused to turn off his video camera in the Kootenai County, Idaho courthouse was shot with a Taser when he tried to force his way into a courtroom, cops said. The incident took place in August when Robert Peterson showed up to the courthouse to contest his citation for riding his bicycle at night without a light, <a href="http://www.kxly.com/news/north-idaho-news/Man-tased-in-courthouse-brouhaha/-/101230/16248208/-/11fwg88/-/index.html">according to KXLY.</a>
Cops Hit Seizure Victim With Taser
A lawsuit filed in October claims cops in Austin, Minn. used a Taser on a man who was suffering a seizure. From the lawsuit, o<a href="http://www.courthousenews.com/2012/10/09/51107.htm">btained by Courthouse News:</a> "In response to a 911 call seeking medical assistance because plaintiff Scott Sheeley was suffering a seizure, City of Austin Police Officers and Gold Cross Ambulance Service paramedics went to Sheeley's home on a 'Sick Cared For' assignment. Instead of providing medical care, police officers, with the assistance of ambulance paramedics, violently restrained Sheeley, depressing his ability to breathe, and repeatedly shocked him with a Taser gun."
