Conan O'Brien Addresses Sandy Hook Shooting In Opening Monologue (VIDEO)

Horrified as we all are at Friday's deadly school shooting in Connecticut, Conan O'Brien chose to forego his usual monologue of topical jokes on Monday night to address the tragedy and its victims.

Conan opened the show by expressing his shock and sadness at the "absolutely horrific" and "insanely mindless" act, explaining that the last thing he wanted to do was comb the news for funny material. After expressing his and his staff's sympathy for the survivors and victims' families, Conan offered to do some silly and pointless comedy to take our minds off of the terrible news.

"Because when you think about it, that's all I'm really good at," Conan joked.

Watch the clip above to hear Conan's monologue, which ends with a much-needed appearance by Minty, "The Candy Cane Who Briefly Fell On The Ground."
