Deployed For The Holidays: How Military Families Cope With Loved Ones Away

In a HuffPost Live segment about spending holidays away from loved ones, host Nancy Redd asked military families how they cope during the holiday season. Adrienne May, a military wife and mother of three, said the hardest part is staying positive in front of the kids.

“Its hard to be the spouse who’s sad and the mom who’s not going to show that they’re sad so that they don’t bring their kids down.” May shared. “It’s kind of two faces.”

Along with using technology to stay in touch and sending care packages, May believes staying active helps most.

“You just have to stay busy,” May advised. “That’s the biggest thing.”
