Johnny Holmes, Robbins Police Chief, Arrested For Second DUI In 3 Years

Suburb's Top Cop Arrested For Second DUI In 3 Years

A Chicago suburb's top cop was arrested last week and charged with his second DUI in just under three years.

Johnny Holmes, the police chief of south suburban Robbins, Ill., was arrested around 10:30 p.m. last Saturday in Midlothian, according to the Chicago Tribune. Holmes was pulled over after police received a 911 call reporting that a driver had barely avoided hitting her with his car near 147th Street and Pulaski Road, police said.

Police say Holmes, 66, initially denied that he had been drinking, but he failed field sobriety tests, NBC Chicago reports. The officer, who's led the Robbins force since 1991, later admitted he had been at the Posen Pub. Police told CBS Chicago Holmes blew a .19 blood-alcohol level in a Breathalyzer test, more than twice Illinois' legal limit of .08.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Holmes said "Oh wow!" when he was asked to perform the field sobriety tests.

He was given seven tickets for charges that also included disobeying a police officer, failure to stop, no proof of insurance, improper lane usage and illegal transportation of alcohol.

Holmes was last arrested for drunk driving in 2010, according to the Associated Press. After he pleaded guilty to the charge, he received a verbal warning from the village and was suspended with pay.
