Michael Phelps Splits With Girlfriend, Megan Rossee: Report

After less than a year of dating, swimming superstar Michael Phelps and his girlfriend Megan Rossee have reportedly called it quits.

According to TMZ, the 22-time Olympic medalist ended the relationship because he felt it "wasn't going anywhere" and wanted the opportunity to "pursue other options."

Rossee -- a 25-year-old aspiring model-- and Phelps had been together since March, TV Guide reports.

Though the couple have yet to confirm the break-up rumors, USA Today notes that both Phelps and Rossee posted "cryptic tweets on Monday that weren't very subtle in their allusions."

At 1.44 a.m. on Monday morning, Phelps tweeted:

Roughly 12 hours later, Rossee appeared to hit back with a link to a rather damning quote:

Though Phelps, who retired from competitive swimming after the London Games, may be newly single and freshly out of the pool, Us Weekly writes that the 27-year-old athlete will likely still have his hands full in 2013.

In February, for instance, Phelps will be appearing on the Golf Channel's Haney Project, where the swimming sensation will get some tips for his golf game from host Hank Haney.

"I have traveled the world through swimming, but really haven’t had an opportunity to experience the world through my travels," Phelps said in an earlier interview, according to Us Weekly. "As I enter this next chapter of my life, I think I will be able to shift my competitiveness to anything I put my mind to and golf is one of the things I want to focus on."
