Bruce Springsteen Named MusiCares 'Person Of The Year'

While some of us are still figuring out our resolutions, Bruce Springsteen has already racked up an impressive win: person of the year. MusiCares, a charity associated with The Recording Academy, recently named Springsteen its 2013 Person of the Year, honoring the Boss' musical achievements and philanthropic work.

"Bruce Springsteen is a truly gifted and Renaissance artist of our time, a national treasure and an exemplary humanitarian," said Neil Portnow, president and CEO of the MusiCares Foundation and The Recording Academy, in a statement. "His career is a testament to the power of creative excellence, and his contributions as a philanthropist speak to the tenacity of the human spirit."

Springsteen was one of many performers who played the 12/12/12 Hurricane Sandy charity concert to raise funds for the thousands affected by the superstorm, but has also lent his star power to a number of other causes. Fighting hunger is an issue near to his heart: he's helped raise several thousands at a charity concert for the hungry in Louisville, Kentucky and his endorsement helped one food collection charity in his native New Jersey win $125,000 to help spread hunger awareness.

The Boss is set to be honored at a charity gala on February 8 in Los Angeles hosted by Jon Stewart; the event is one of the most "prestigious" events held during Grammy Week, which ends with the Grammy Awards on February 10. Sting, Elton John, Neil Young and more will be on hand to celebrate Springsteen at the gala.

Congratulations, Bruce! He's joining a long list of post 50 music favorites with a heart of gold, including last year's MusiCares Person of the Year Paul McCartney and Tony Bennett, Barbra Streisand and Aretha Franklin.
