Best Picture nominees at the 85th annual Academy Awards include "Argo," "Lincoln" and "Zero Dark Thirty."

"Les Miserables," "Silver Linings Playbook," "Life of Pi," "Django Unchained," "Beasts of the Southern Wild" and "Amour" were also nominated for Oscars.

Directed by Steven Spielberg, "Lincoln" tells the story of Abraham Lincoln's battle to pass the 13th amendment. Spielberg and star Daniel Day-Lewis were also nominated for Oscars.

"Argo" is Ben Affleck's film about how the CIA extracted six American embassy workers from Iran during the hostage crisis in 1980. In a surprise, Affleck was not nominated for Best Director.

Another CIA-centric film, "Zero Dark Thirty" is a docu-drama from director Kathryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker") about the hunt for Osama bin Laden. Like Affleck, Bigelow was left off the Best Director list.

"Les Miserables," based on the famed musical of the same name, scored nominations for stars Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway as well.

Last year, "The Artist" won Best Picture.

The 85th annual Academy Awards take place on Feb. 24. Seth MacFarlane ("Ted") will host.
