Three years after his sex scandal with female staffers was exposed, David Letterman has made a surprising confession about the state of his marriage: It's never been better.

In an interview on "Oprah’s Next Chapter" Sunday, the legendary talk show host said that although he's "still trying to fix" things with wife Regina Lasko, the couple's marriage is on the up and up.

"I feel better about myself, and my relationship with my wife has never been better," Letterman said.

Over at The Stir, writer Ericka Sóuter considered how common it was for infidelity-damaged relationships to become even "better" after an affair, as Letterman described.

"I certainly don't think Letterman is alone in his realization," Sóuter wrote. "A lot of people who get caught in similar indiscretions pray for that second chance. Nearly losing everything you truly cherish can make a relationship stronger because you actually appreciate it on a profound, new level."

We wondered if others agreed with Sóuter, so we asked our followers on Facebook and Twitter to share with us their thoughts on recovering from infidelity: Can an affair actually make a marriage stronger?
