The 2013 Golden Globes had us jumping for joy. Not because some of our favorite TV shows and movies won (yay, "Homeland"), but because actresses took style chances on the red carpet this year, making for an interesting awards show (and an amazing best-dressed list).

We saw lots of tomato red on actresses like Claire Danes, Marion Cotillard and Jennifer Lawrence. Some of our favorite celebrities shone in black gowns, which normally leave us a little cold, but thanks to strategic cutouts and pretty details, were anything but boring. Check out our picks for best-dressed at the 2013 Golden Globes, and then head over to see who landed on our worst-dressed list.

  • Katharine McPhee In Theyskens' Theory

The "Smash" <a href="">star looks smoldering</a>, yet sophisticated in this plunging gown. The revealing nature is balanced by the long hemline, and the wide belt shows off her tiny waist.

  • Claire Danes In Versace

The new mom and <a href="">"Homeland" actress </a>stuns in red Versace a mere few weeks after giving birth to baby Cyrus. The wrap effect creates an hourglass silhouette, while the warm red hue complements her tanned skin and blonde locks.

  • Zooey Deschanel In Oscar de la Renta

The "<a href="">New Girl</a>" star looks like royalty in this princess gown. The strapless, fitted bodice shows off her upper body, while the volume in the train is just dramatic enough an event like the Golden Globes.

  • Isla Fisher In Reem Acra

If you're gonna sparkle, tonight is the night to do it. <a href="">Mrs. Sasha Baron Cohen </a>chose a gown with an illusion neckline, while the simple cut of the dress and the casual hairdo balance the embellished nature of the gown.

  • Kerry Washington in Miu Miu

The <a href="">"Django Unchained" star </a>has been killing it on red carpets lately, and this is no exception. The peach hue of the dress and sequined detail shine against her skintone, while the very simple cut of the dress are offset by the peek-a-boo effect of the sheer tulle overlay. Simple hair and makeup top off the look perfectly.

  • Megan Fox In Dolce & Gabbana

Simple, fitted and lacy is the name of the game, and it works on the <a href="">raven-haired actress</a>.

  • Amy Adams In Marchesa

The top of the <a href="">nominee's gown</a> is so subtle and demure, while the fitted waist shows off her body. The layers and layers of tulle are pure drama.

  • Julianne Moore in Tom Ford

The "<a href="">Game Change</a>" actress is sleek and elegant in black and white. The white detail at the waist and up the leg highlight her slim figure, while her updo shows off her show-stopping earrings.

  • Kristen Wiig In Michael Kors

The simple neckline and body-skimming cut are sexy, but it's <a href="">that cutout that has us looking twice</a>.

  • Jessica Alba in Oscar de la Renta

The presenter chose a mermaid-style gown to show off her curves, and the mango hue of the dress is so flattering against her olive skintone. Her loose waves and stunning jewels are pure glamour.

  • Marion Cotillard In Christian Dior

The <a href="">French actress, who was nominated for "Rust And Bone" </a>was jaw-droppingly gorgeous in a tomato red gown. The strapless top showed off her neckline, the metallic belt called attention to her waist, and the draping added interest. We love how she skipped jewelry -- it just wasn't necessary.

  • Kate Hudson In Alexander McQueen

The <a href="">blonde actress</a> looks stunning in black. The detail at her neck and waist highlight the sexy keyhole and her trim waistline, while the gold frames her lovely face.

  • Helen Mirren In Badgley Mischka

The "<a href="">Hitchcock</a>" actress chose a simple column gown, but the detail at her neckline and her waist created a gorgeous hourglass silhouette. Topped with her sexy curls, the actress looked stunning.

  • Sally Field In Alberta Ferretti

  • Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Couture

This dress is perfect. The mango hue glows <a href="">against her tanned skin </a>and dark hair, while the metallic belt catches our eye and puts the focus on her tiny waistline. The voluminous skirt contrasts beautifully with the simple, fitted bodice, and the small simple earrings and clutch are just right.

  • Anne Hathaway In Chanel

The delicately beaded gown is so elegant, especially when paired with her <a href="">dark pixie 'do </a>and no jewelry. The peplum at her waist adds some curves to her slim frame, and the floor-length gown is pure elegance.

  • Amy Poehler In Stella McCartney

We love when a woman rocks a tuxedo on a red carpet, and Amy Poehler is no exception. The blonde "<a href="">Parks And Recreation</a>" star (and Globes host) looks gorgeous in a fitted tuxedo that plunges to show off her décolletage (and her bling!), while the cropped pants emphasize those sexy, strappy heels.

  • Naomi Watts In Zac Posen

Oxblood may be the color of the season, but the back is the erogenous zone to show off. We love a demure dress that surprises with a sexy cutout in the back.

  • Taylor Swift

<a href="">Swift looks beautiful</a> in this deep burgundy color. But it's the rear view that is really stunning. Wow, way to go for the drama, Tay Tay.
