It has been close to five years since a judge placed Britney Spears under conservatorship of her father, Jamie Spears, giving him control of her career, personal life and finances -- and he isn't about to relinquish that control anytime soon.
RadarOnline reports that when the 31-year-old pop star broke off her engagement to manager Jason Trawick, she also ensured that there is no end in sight for her release from the court order.
“There are absolutely no plans to petition the court for the conservatorship to end,” a source told the website. “It is highly unlikely it will end for at least another year."
Trawick was approved as a co-conservator in April -- a request that was made by Britney herself -- but he has since been removed since the couple split, reports TMZ.
“Jamie will be keeping a very close eye on Britney now she no longer has Jason in her life. He loved Jason like a son and trusted him to look after his daughter," the source explained to RadarOnline. "Now that Jason is gone, Jamie is concerned that Britney doesn’t have any true friends to look out for her outside of her immediate family members, and he believes it is more important than ever right now to keep the conservatorship in place to protect her."
Spears and Trawick had been engaged since December 2011, but it just wasn't meant to be. According to TMZ, their "friendly breakup" stemmed from the singer's desire to have more children, while Trawick, was resistant to expand their family, which already included Spears' two children from her previous marriage to Kevin Federline, Sean Preston and Jayden James.
Spears has both Trawick and her father to thank for getting her career back on track following a mental breakdown in 2008. This past summer it was reported that Spears was growing tired of the conservatorship and planned to meet with a judge to discuss her progress. At the time, sources told RadarOnline that Spears had been doing "extremely well," but that her "personality disorder" allegedly makes her too much of a wild card to be able to make her own decisions.
With the star's breakup and other big life changes, including her decision to quit her gig as a judge on "X Factor," it's no wonder her father and the rest of us are on #BritneyWatch2013.
