University Of Southern California Going On Lock Down At Night Due To Shootings (VIDEO)

The University of Southern California is going on lock down at night under a new policy adopted after an October 2012 shooting on campus that left four people wounded, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The new policy went into effect Monday and requires anyone arriving on campus between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. to show identification to security guards. Only students, employees and their guests will be allowed on campus, and the number of entrance points will be reduced.

During the Halloween shooting which prompted the new security efforts, no students were wounded and a man who does not attend USC was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. However, two graduate students were fatally shot in a botched robbery less than a mile from campus a few months earlier in 2012, according to NBC News. Not to mention the nearby University of California-Los Angeles campus has had its own troubles keeping students safe at night.

USC President C. L. Max Nikias told the LA Times he believes it's "a small inconvenience given how strongly I feel about the safety and security of the campus."
