Cornbread Recipes (PHOTOS)

There's a lot that we're grateful for when it comes to Southern cuisine -- and cornbread recipes are definitely one of them. We love starting our day off with grits. We're always down for fried green tomatoes. And just the mention of pimento cheese makes us hungry. But then, there's cornbread. We'd give it all up (maybe) for cornbread.

Cornbread recipes come with all types of variations -- jalapeno and cheddar to name a few -- and not one of them will let you down. Then there are the toppings (like butter and honey) which make this already perfect food even better. How do you like your cornbread? Let us know in the comments.

CORNBREAD: Either White or Yellow (egg) either Sweet(sugar) or Reg in a Cast Iron Skillet.
Any Deviation from above IS NOT Cornbread.

Sick of going to so called Southern Resturants that insist on adding cheese,peppers,whole kernal corn, Cheetos or whatever and calling it "Cornbread"!!!!! ( Its not)

Cornbread--the possibilities are endless. Years ago I worked as Chief Engineer of a hotel in eastern PA. We had an Executive Chef from Texas. The hotel did an astonishing Thanksgiving Brunch (in excess of 1500 PPL). Large parties could have whole turkeys at their table, if they ordered in advance. One of his dressings was oyster/cornbread. Being an executive at the hotel I had perks, one of which was food concierge service. I seldom used it. One year I did. I was hosting family from New England. I cooked a small turkey at home with traditional sage dressing and had the hotel turkey next to it. The dressing was everything people from New England are supposed to dislike: a little spicy, had oysters, no bread...it was a huge hit. The chef would not give me his recipe. But if you're adventurous and want to try something completely different, let me suggest an oyster.cornbread dressing. Nail this recipe and you have got something good. One thing I do know: you have to dry out the cornbread before you start the recipe.

The Southern Cornbread recipe is almost identical (minus the sugar) to the one given to me by my mother-in-law 51 years ago. You can add anything you wish to cornbread, BUT, it should always be baked in a cast iron skillet. That's the only way to get that nice crust that we Southerners love.

Try cornbread with Chinese stir fry instead of rice. Unbelievably good.

Thank you Huff for the reciprs on corn bread. We made this not 3days ago I love corn bread so much and I was wondering what it would taste like with stuff like this added see I'm not much of a cook , I'll def. try them out.
