Mayim Bialik On 2013: 'Big Bang Theory' Star Says New Year Will Be Better

'Glass Half-Full' For Mayim Bialik In 2013

Things can only look up from here for Mayim Bialik -- and the actress herself agrees.

Last year, Bialik suffered injuries from a bloody car accident in August and underwent a divorce in November. Those events sandwiched an Emmy nomination for her role on the popular sitcom "The Big Bang Theory" as well as the show's continued overall success, but Bialik still walked away feeling like luck wasn't on her side.

But it looks like the actress is donning a hopeful face in the near year. At Sunday's Golden Globes, she told People magazine that "things can only get better" in the wake of such a trying time. "That's the glass half-full," Bialik said.

The 37-year-old actress, whose first notable role came when she played the younger version of Bette Middler's character in 1988's "Beaches," has relied on her Jewish upbringing to get her through the troubles.

"I'm a person of deep religious faith," Bialik told People. "I really believe that things will be right in the universe. Things are hard, but I've really been taught in my tradition that the harder things are, the greater the potential reward. I really believe that."

Bialik said she's turning to physical challenges in order to achieve higher goals in the coming months. She plans to climb "a large mountain" with a friend of hers who's a professional climber.

In the meantime, she'll continue to rely on her spirituality to guide her.

"I don't want to say everything happens for a reason, but every day is lined up right next to the other one for a reason," she said. "The best you can do is do each day well with kindness and as a good person."
