A bizarre chain of events set off after a pregnant woman's water broke at a Missouri club ended in the arrest of an area man Saturday.
Police said that Cyrano R. Irons, 23, fired a gun following an argument that transpired after a pregnant woman's water broke at the E.B. Bar & Grill in Kansas City on Jan. 12.
The pregnant woman had been dancing when her water broke, prompting some people to "make unkind comments about why she was at the club," according to the Kansas City Star. The words sparked an argument between groups of men and escalated into a shootout outside of the establishment. A 40-year-old man not involved in the dispute was shot in the buttocks and critically wounded, police said.
Although the woman in this case is not accused of wrongdoing, pregnant women have been arrested in connection with crimes before.
Earlier this month, police in Maine arrested a 9-months-pregnant woman who they allege acted as the getaway driver in a home burglary that was foiled by the owner.
In October, a pregnant woman arrested for public drunkenness gave birth in the lobby of the Santa Cruz, Calif., jail.
