Betsy Gotbaum, Ex-Public Advocate, Backs Stepson's Opponent In Race

Noah E. Gotbaum, a son of the labor leader Victor Gotbaum, can count on his family name for a boost as he runs this year for the office of New York City public advocate.

What he cannot count on, however, is one key member of his family.

Noah Gotbaum’s stepmother, Betsy Gotbaum, a former public advocate herself, has endorsed State Senator Daniel L. Squadron, not her stepson, in the Democratic primary for the post. In a brief interview on Wednesday, Ms. Gotbaum said that her decision, which was to be announced on Thursday, was not personal and that she and her stepson had “a close relationship.”
