Palmer House Shooting Victim Among The At Least 14 Injured, 2 Fatally, During Weekend Violence

Man Shot At 22nd Floor Palmer House Party

A man shot at a party on the 22nd floor of Chicago's historic Palmer House was among the at least 14 wounded, 2 fatally, in weekend violence.

The 25-year-old man was shot in the 17 E. Monroe St. hotel around 2:15 a.m., reports DNAinfo Chicago. He sufferd a bullet wound to the leg and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The Tribune reported police had no one in custody, and that the man was "not cooperating fully" with law enforcement.

Staff and spokesmen for the Hilton-owned hotel have not responded to media inquiries.

Friday evening marked the first fatal shooting of the weekend when a man was shot at a Popeye's restaurant in West Austin around 9:15 a.m. Fox Chicago reports 21 year-old Marshall D. Fields-Hall was "shot several times" through the glass window of the restaurant in the 5500 block of W North Ave. He was later pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.

Just 15 minutes later, a separate fatal shooting in Back of the Yards claimed the life of 19-year-old Jovantay Alexander. Police say the young man was shot in the face and found dead near the 1500 block of W 54th St.

No one has been arrested in relation to the shooting.

Five more were injured from Friday to Saturday, including a 15-year-old who was shot in the chest and taken to University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital.

Twenty-five homicides have been logged so far this year, according to RedEye Chicago's homicide tracker. January of 2012 logged forty homicides total.
