Lisa Ling's 'Our America' Explores BDSM In 'Fifty Shades Of Kink' (VIDEO)

Lisa Ling: Some Powerful CEOs Visit A Dominatrix 'To Be Humiliated Or Spanked'

Television host Lisa Ling said she used to be uncomfortable with the idea of S&M, but after the wild success of the 2011 erotic novel "Fifty Shades of Grey," she was curious to learn more.

On Tuesday night's season premiere of her show "Our America," airing on OWN, Ling goes inside the world of bondage/discipline, dominance/submission, and sadism/masochism, commonly referred to as BDSM. She even spends some time sitting cross-legged across from a couple carrying out an act.

"They call them scenes," Ling told HuffPost Live's Jacob Soboroff. "In actuality, what people participating in BDSM are doing is acting. They negotiate these scenes, they discuss what they like, what they dislike, and then they sort of perform these scenes. And if at any point things become too painful or too uncomfortable, they can say stop or use their safe word."

Ling said a lot of people view this world as being abusive, but that she discovered there is actually an art to it and that those who participate find it to be therapeutic.

CEOs are among those who are BDSM fans, Ling explained.

"They're so used to being doted upon and people delivering any request they desire, so there are times when people -- high-powered CEOs -- may go to a dominatrix to be humiliated or spanked or become a submissive," Ling told HuffPost Live. "They derive pleasure from that because it's so outside the box of their normal life."

"Our America" airs at 10 p.m. EST on OWN.
