Although "Parenthood" ratings have been higher than ever this season, series creator Jason Katims is cautioning fans that a renewal isn't a guarantee.

"Assuming we get picked up, which is a big assumption, we'll be off the air for quite a long time," Katims told TV Guide, noting that he would obviously prefer more episodes if there were to be a "Parenthood" Season 5.

When HuffPost TV asked "Parenthood" star Sam Jaeger what his hopes for Joel would be if the show were to be renewed, he said, "I just have hopes for Season 5. I don't have any specific aim ... Really, I just hope these Bravermans stay alive for another season."

The season finale of "Parenthood" airs on Tues., Jan. 22 at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
