Aleppo University Bombing: Video Reportedly Showing Blast Surfaces

WATCH: Footage Reportedly Shows Deadly Blast At Aleppo University

A video claims to show the deadly bombing at Syria's Aleppo University on Jan. 15, 2013.

The footage, which cannot be independently verified, appears to show people running down the street with billowing smoke in the background. Then, a blast lights up a building to the right and a giant cloud of grey smoke rises into the sky.

The Associated Press reported that twin explosions at the university left at least 87 people dead, and injured more than 100. While eyewitnesses claimed that air strikes launched by government forces caused the devastation, Syrian state media argued that a "terrorist group" hit the university with multiple rockets.

The United States condemned the attack, calling it a "senseless tragedy, which is only the latest in a long stream of losses inflicted by the Assad regime on its own people."

The New York Times has a thorough roundup of amateur footage capturing the bombing and its aftermath.

More than 60,000 people have been killed since the start of the conflict in Syria in March 2011, according to United Nations estimates.
