Michael Snider, Alleged Drunk Driver, Accused Of Causing Fatal Georgia Crash Spree

Alleged Drunk Driver Accused Of Crashing Into About 17 Cars

Georgia police arrested Michael Owen Snider on Jan. 23 after the man allegedly hit about 17 vehicles in a "hit-and-run spree" that spanned two counties and left one person dead.

According to CBS Atlanta, police said the 70-year-old Stone Mountain, Ga., man was drunk behind the wheel of his pickup truck when he plowed into other vehicles along Highway 78.

The streak of wrecks included a collision with a Toyota Camry that caused the impacted car to become wedged under the trailer of a tractor-trailer truck, killing a passenger.

Police told the Gwinnett Daily Post that the the spree abruptly ended shortly after that fatal collision, when Snider's 2006 Ford Super Duty pickup "veered off the road" and crashed into a restaurant.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Snider's attitude following the crashes was less than contrite.

“Do you know who I am?” Snider reportedly said.“I do whatever I want.”

However, after he was made aware of the incident, he reportedly needed counseling, CBS Atlanta reports.

At least one driver accused Snider of targeting other cars on the road. Dennis Brown told WSBT that he was stopped at a light when he noticed the large pickup truck strike another vehicle and bear down on him.

"He intentionally tried to hit me so that's when he chased me, literally he chased me, on the road. It was like a video game. Really, I couldn't believe he was trying to do that," Brown said. "I was just trying to get out of the way."

After being treated for injuries at a local hospital, Snider was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, serious injury by vehicle, DUI, reckless driving and following too closely. Other charges are pending.
