'Star Wars' 3D Treatment Canceled For Prequels

'Star Wars' 3D Movie Canned

The Force may be strong, but not the desire for Disney and Lucasfilm to release the "Star Wars" prequels in 3D.

Lucasfilm first announced the 3D conversion of "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith" in August of 2012. The films were set for release in September and October of 2013.

According to Deadline, one reason that the films were shelved is because "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" in 3D only made $43 million upon its release last year.

That the 3D re-releases were called off is no surprise now that Lucasfilm is part of Disney. The studio recently called off plans for the 3D re-release of "The Little Mermaid" because of diminishing returns with its other retrofitted properties.
