"Django Unchained" star Christoph Waltz will host "Saturday Night Live" on Feb. 16, NBC announced Wednesday. Rock group The Alabama Shakes will be the musical guest.
Waltz is coming off a Golden Globe win for Best Supporting Actor for his turn as the protagonist in the Quentin Tarantino-directed "Django," and is also up for an Oscar in the same category. He previously collaborated with Tarantino, and won his first Oscar, for his role as the villain in 2009's "Inglourious Basterds."
This will mark his first time hosting "Saturday Night Live." Although the 56-year-old actor is a relatively new face to American audiences, Waltz has been a star in Germany and Austria, from which he hails, for many years.
The Alabama Shakes, best known for their single "Hold On," have attracted plenty of attention in the last year. They are currently up for Grammy awards for that song and for Best New Artist.
"SNL" will take a week off this Saturday, but will return on Feb. 9, in which Justin Bieber will be the host and musical guest.
