June Shannon, 'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo' Star, Talks Guilty Pleasures, Pet Peeves For HuffPost's #nofilter

'Honey Boo Boo' Matriarch On What Makes Her Lose Her Cool

These days, our knowledge of celebrities too often originates with paparazzi images and snarky quotes by anonymous "insiders." After a while, it's easy to forget that stars are real people. That's why HuffPost Celebrity decided to launch its all-new #nofilter quick-fire question and answer series. Because how well do you know someone until they've shared their guiltiest pleasures?

"Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" has become a huge hit for TLC, thanks to the over-the-top antics of its 7-year-old star, Alana Thompson. But Alana's mother, June Shannon, has proved to be a scene-stealer in her own right. Whether she's sharing her recipe for sketti, or coining colorful catchphrases, Mama June tells it like it is. We caught up with the family matriarch to discuss white lies, favorite flicks and what makes her lose her cool.

What's your guiltiest pleasure? It'd have to be watching reality shows. Not just ours. We love "Cake Boss" and most TLC programming. Couponing is also a guilty pleasure. As I said on the show, saving money can sometimes be better than sex. What's the dumbest thing you've read about yourself? All the lies. Bloggers talk about how bad our show is, but they seem to know the most about it. We call them our closet fans. I also don’t like it when people call us trailer trash. We don’t represent rednecks, Southerners or the state of Georgia. We represent our family. If you could give advice to a younger version of yourself, what would it be?Always live life to the fullest and take one day at a time. You never know when something might end. If you are in a good place, always have fun and enjoy the ride while it lasts. I also live by the phrase “It is what it is.” Shit happens. Sometimes you just have to accept it and move on with your life.

What’s your hidden talent?I don't think I have any. What movie could you watch over and over?"Steel Magnolias" or "Fried Green Tomatoes." My stepdad was actually in the background in one of the scenes of "Fried Green Tomatoes." What's the most important lesson you've taught your daughters?Don't care what anybody says about you and always be confident with who you are. Be happy with yourself and don’t try to please other people. If you were interviewing yourself, what’s one question you’d ask?I don’t know … I feel like I’ve been asked everything. As you see on the show, we really don’t hide much from everyone who watches. What's the silliest thing you've ever lied about?Spending more money on something that I bought for Sugar Bear than I actually did. There are times when he’s asked about how much pageants cost. I’ll lie and tell him it’s less because I think it’s important to spend the money on Alana and do what makes her happy. Sugar Bear also doesn’t know anything about clothes, so if I buy him something nice, I won’t tell him that I got it on discount. What's one thing from your childhood wardrobe that you wish you could wear now?I used to walk around in different types of dress shoes. I can’t wear those now and sometimes I miss them. What did you have for dinner last night?Shake and Bake pork chops, corn and macaroni and cheese. What would people be surprised to know you've never done?I’ve gotten to do everything I’ve wanted to do … so nothing. What's one item that's always in your refrigerator?Eggs. When do you lose your temper? When the girls and Sugar Bear don’t listen. That’s with every mother. If the girls don’t do their chores or if Sugar Bear is being stubborn, that is the only time I lose my cool.

"Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" returns on Sunday, February 10 at 9 p.m. EST for a one-hour Christmas special.
